i finally finished my first pair of socks (for myself)! somehow, i managed to make all kinds of mistakes on the second sock. it's not like it's a hard pattern or anything, i think i just wasn't paying much attention to what i was doing. nonetheless, it's a completed pair of socks, and i'm happy with them, even if the second one has a few things wrong with it.
i also realized that taking pictures of my knitting is maybe not exactly normal to people who uh, don't knit. for example, i finished my socks this morning. i put them on, admired them for a minute or so, and then whipped out my camera. my brother and his wife, who were visiting this weekend, immediately scooted closer together on their couch and smiled for the camera. the smiles faltered a bit when instead of taking a picture of them, i pointed it at my feet. hi guys, don't mind me, just taking a picture of my feet.
and, two hats! these are old, finished long before i started this vox blog, but since the jaywalkers are a grumperina pattern, and the odessa hat is too, i may as well put them all together. the grey one is mine, love it, wear it all winter long.. the pink one was gifted to a friend, and was made from blue sky alpaca silk, which is beautiful, but sooo not right for this hat. (thanks again, bad yarn shop. i'm still mad at you for suggesting that as an acceptable substitute yarn.)
okay, maybe not. my elbow still hurts a little (from trying to knit a sock while the boy was using me as a pillow - arms way up in the air!), and my wrist is a little twingey (damn you carpal tunnel), but i'll live. thanks to some advil, some frozen peas, and a couple of days without any knitting, i was able to get a bit done this weekend.
here's the sock, in the instep stage.. the pain thing aside, i'm still enjoying myself, and bought some size 2 dpns today, which completes my sock needle collection, yay! so far, my only intentional modification to the pattern has been to shorten the length of the leg a little.
the lace wings seasilk shawl is coming along well, though i was hoping i'd finish it this weekend. ha, what a thought that was. even though i did get (i think) about 2 more inches done, i still seems to have 40 grams of yarn? i'm still amazed at how much shawl one skein of yarn is producing, though i'm glad it is, because no way could i afford to buy more than one skein of this stuff at a time. i do wish i knew what colorway i have though. here's the most color accurate photo i've been able to take of the ball of yarn:
i've tried to match this up to any of their colorways, handmaiden and/or fleece artist, but no luck. it's knitting up predominantly purple/burgundy, but has blues ranging from sky blue to deep midnight blue, violet to lavender, all shades of pink from fuschia and hot pink to the palest of pinks.. as well as mossy greens, teals, greys, caramel browns/golds.. i'm not complaining, i love it and think it's gorgeous.. i'd just like to know which colorway it is. any guesses?
